Sense's education service aims to improve education for deafblind children and young adults by influencing national and local government and by supporting local education authorities and non-maintained specialist schools.
We have considerable knowledge of the educational needs of deafblind children and adults and can advise families on all aspects of school provision, including:
- specialist assessments
- statementing and review processes
- curriculum
- accessing appropriate educational support
Support for professionals
We support a wide range of professionals - teachers, learning support assistants, intervenors, speech & language, occupational and physiotherapists - including:
- continuing professional development programmes and other forms of training
- teacher networks
We support the National Organisation of Intervenors by providing:
- network and training days
- Register of Intervenors
We also play a key role in supporting the development of postgraduate teacher training for those working with deafblind children and adults.
