One-to-one support to learn and develop

Intervenors usually work with children or adults who were born with severe visual and hearing impairments and who may also have additional disabilities.

What they do

Intervenors help people to communicate and receive information by offering them individualised one-to-one support. Their role is to enable the individual to benefit from learning and social experiences and to help them have greater access to the local environment.

An Intervenor will help promote personal growth, communication and development, following a carefully planned programme tailored to the needs of the individual.

Intervenors work with children in schools, as well as providing support for both children and adults in the home and community environments.

What Sense provides

As well as providing training for Intervenors working in schools, Sense provides Intervenor support services for adults living in the community.

This includes early developmental support, respite for younger children and helping older children participate in social activities.
