Deafblind people face enormous challenges every day - and Sense faces increasing demand for new support and services. We have made tremendous progress in the last five years and are proud of our achievements - but there is much more still to be done.
Major achievements 2000-2005
Enabled 1,500 deafblind people to live more independent lives through our specialist day, outreach and 24/7 residential services.
Helped thousands more deafblind people to get the help they need from local authorities through our successful campaign for government guidance.
Provided supported holidays for 500 deafblind people.
Set up 160 new one-to-one communicator guide and intervenor services – a lifeline for deafblind people living in the community.
Successfully lobbied for the European Parliament to officially recognise the unique needs of deafblind people.
Delivered direct information and advice about deafblindness to 12,000 people.
