Major achievements

Deafblind people face enormous challenges every day - and Sense faces increasing demand for new support and services. We have made tremendous progress in the last five years and are proud of our achievements - but there is much more still to be done.

Major achievements 2000-2005

  • Enabled 1,500 deafblind people to live more independent lives through our specialist day, outreach and 24/7 residential services.

  • Helped thousands more deafblind people to get the help they need from local authorities through our successful campaign for government guidance.

  • Provided supported holidays for 500 deafblind people.

  • Set up 160 new one-to-one communicator guide and intervenor services – a lifeline for deafblind people living in the community.

  • Successfully lobbied for the European Parliament to officially recognise the unique needs of deafblind people.

  • Delivered direct information and advice about deafblindness to 12,000 people.
