Code: RT06

If you don't get an assessment or the services you need, then you can complain.

All Local Authorities must have a complaints procedure and must provide you with information about it. By law the complaints procedure will have:

  • An informal stage - no time limit, based on mediation.
  • A registered stage - where the complaint is given in writing
  • A review stage - which consists of a hearing of three people, one of whom is independent.

It all stages of the complaints procedure, please make sure you keep a copy of EVERYTHING in writing. This includes written confirmation of agreements made over the telephone as well as keeping all correspondence.

Where can I go for help?

Sense is happy to help if you are having problems with your complaint. Please contact us for help.

The local authority should keep you informed of the progress of your complaint, if they don't or if it is progressing too slowly, then send them a letter.

If you do not get a satisfaction through the complaints procedure, you can complain to The Local Authority Ombudsman.
