Types of Usher

There are several different types of Usher syndrome. These are caused by different genes.

  • Type 1
Changes in any one of at least 6 genes can cause Usher (1A to 1F). Most individuals with type 1 appear to be caused by changes in type 1B (83%).
  • Type 2
    2A (common), 2B (uncommon), 2C (rare)
  • Type 3
Only common in Finland, rare elsewhere.

Is there any treatment available for Usher?

There is no treatment available for Usher at the moment. Sense is currently conducting research looking into the types of Usher, the genes that are involved and where the genes are located.
